As a student conduct specialist for the Dean of Students, Matthew Simmerman meets with students who may have violated the Code of Conduct. They also work with another student conduct specialist and the associate director of student conduct to decide which charges may be appropriate for different cases, and then meet with involved parties to gather more information for a possible hearing.
What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?
One of my professors and advisors told me to always make sure that I make time to explore my interests; even if you can’t focus on them all the time, you should still make sure to explore topics that excite you.
How do you spend a typical weekend?
My partner and I generally like to go out and explore during the day and then stay in and do some housework then watch a movie at night. We found a nice farmer’s market close to our house on Saturday mornings and we also like to go visit different antique/thrift stores.
Do you have any bucket list items?
I definitely have a few bucket list items. The item at the top of my list is probably visiting Antarctica! I also want to go skydiving and scuba dive with whales.
What's your favorite spot to grab dinner in Indy? What do you order?
I actually just moved to Indy a few weeks ago, so I am not super familiar with all the restaurants in the city yet. One restaurant I’ve been to a couple times so far that I really liked is Lincoln Square Pancake House. I’ve also been trying a bunch of Mexican restaurants with my partner, and we’re hoping to find a really good one.
