Taking care of housing business
Submit a work order
To report a maintenance issue or concern, please complete the work order request form below. Our team aims to follow up on maintenance concerns in the order they are received and dependent on priority. You can visit your community office to follow up on the status of a non-emergency maintenance issue.
In the event of an EMERGENCY maintenance issue, please contact the RA on duty.
Please contact University Information Technology Services (UITS) Support Center for assistance in accessing IU Secure, eduroam or IU DeviceNet. Phone, email, and chat support is available 24/7.
Community offices, RA on duty information, and emergency information
Your community office in your building can help you with a work order, lock-out assistance, lost or non-working CrimsonCard, pick up a package or oversized mail, and information about programs and events.
All community office desks in our four residence halls are open Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–9 p.m., excluding holidays and break periods.

Sending and receiving mail
You can use your new address for both mail and packages. If you receive a package, it will be delivered to the community desk, and you will receive an email informing you there is a package for pickup. Reminder: Anything with monetary value should be sent by registered mail.

It is important you update your mailing address prior to any change of residence to avoid mail and package delays. To ensure that your mail is forwarded, a change of address form or card must be filed with the U.S. Postal Service at least two weeks prior to your departure. Housing and Residence Life should be advised of your forwarding address and all publishers you have subscribed to. Updates may be completed through an online form with the U.S. Postal Service and the Registrar.
IU Indianapolis TV and phone
Living on campus gives you access to Xfinity On Campus, a streaming IPTV service, at no cost to you. It includes all the apps for our channel lineup, allowing you to watch your favorite tv shows in between studying. Because of this service, traditional cable TV is no longer available in the halls.

IU ResLife Cinema
This streaming movie service allows you to vote on what movies are available. Visit IU ResLife Cinema to get logged in and watch the latest movies today!
Landline phones
While the phone line is not automatically activated, you can get information online about requesting a landline through UITS.
Moving out and breaks
Move-out for the academic year is May 5, 2024 at 12 noon. Additional information will be provided in March 2024, so you have ample time to prepare.
- Attend floor closing meetings for detailed move-out info
- Refer to messaging sent out (email, RA Bulletin boards, signage)
- 24-hour quiet hours instituted during finals week
- Review damage form with roommates to assess damage responsibility
- Sign-up for a move out time slot (opens in April)
- Room must be fully empty, clean, and the furniture returned to the proper place before an HRL staff member can do your room check
Campus breaks
You can stay on campus during fall break in October, Thanksgiving break in November, and spring break in March of each academic year. Each of these breaks do not require additional registration and there are no fees associated with staying on campus during these times. Please note that offices will be closed during Thanksgiving break and to plan accordingly.
For winter break in December/January each year, Ball Hall, University Tower, and North Hall will close. Residents are not required to fully move out, but they cannot re-enter their halls until they open back up in January. Riverwalk Apartments are open during winter break, and there are no additional fees for staying during this time.
Residents will receive up-to-date information about winter break via email in advance.
Summer housing information
Any Indiana University student on any IU campus can reside in summer housing at IU Indianapolis. You do not have to be taking classes for the summer terms, but you must have an IU ID number and account set up to apply for summer housing.
- Select buildings in Riverwalk Apartments will be open. North Hall, Ball Hall, and University Tower are closed for summer.
- Room types available for summer are Riverwalk four-bedroom, two-bedroom apartments, and shared-bedroom apartments. Take a virtual tour of the Riverwalk Apartments and see what is included.
- Pricing is determined based on the room type you select and the number of days you request to stay on campus. An estimate for calculating summer housing can be found on the summer application or by emailing our office at reslife@iu.edu.

- The entire cost of your summer housing and a Residence Life fee will be billed to your IU Bursar Account. For questions about payments and billing please see the Bursar’s website.
- The summer housing application opens on March 10 and can be completed online.
- There is no application fee.
- Summer housing is available from May 9 through Aug. 7.
- A minimum of 30 days is required for a summer contract.
- When filling out the application, students will need to indicate what dates they want to live on campus.
- Students taking classes for Summer Session 1 that are only needing housing for that session should expect to move out the day after Summer Session 1 concludes.
- Students planning on living on in the fall that stay in summer housing will likely have a different housing contract come fall 2024 move-in.
