Jason Spratt, associate vice chancellor and dean of students for the Division of Student Affairs, was recently honored with the prestigious Champion for Teaching Excellence Award by the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL).
The award recognizes faculty and staff who have made outstanding contributions to the university’s teaching and learning community, often going above and beyond their roles to support students, faculty and colleagues.
Spratt, who has spent years supporting both students and colleagues on campus, was surprised by the recognition. "It was humbling to be recognized for work that often happens behind the scenes. The contributions of Student Affairs professionals aren’t always visible, but they are vital to student success," he shared.
The Champion for Teaching Excellence Award highlights contributions to CTL’s mission, which promotes the use of evidence-based teaching practices, inclusivity and student success. Spratt’s service has included committee participation and advocacy for initiatives that have bolstered the Center’s reach and impact.
"Receiving this award alongside other faculty and staff members came as a genuine surprise. I’ve never called myself a champion at anything," Spratt said, adding, "except maybe at being the loudest in the room!"
All jokes aside, Spratt has helped foster a sense of collaboration among faculty, staff and students to build an environment that encourages both academic and personal growth.
