The Outstanding Administrator Award honors the legacy of IU Indianapolis’ chancellor from 1986 to 2003, Gerald L. Bepko. This award continues to recognize senior administrators who demonstrate outstanding leadership in higher education.
Last month, Dr. Eric Weldy, vice chancellor for Student Affairs, was presented with this honor by the Indianapolis Faculty Council.
"Winning the award was a complete surprise to me up until the moment my name was announced," said Dr. Weldy. "I understand much planning went into keeping me from finding out I was nominated and selected."
Throughout his time at IU Indy, Dr. Weldy has led several impactful initiatives focused on collaboration, strategic planning and student engagement. Under his leadership, the division has developed its first diversity strategic plan, increased staff salaries and strengthened partnerships across campus.
"A major part of our success as a division has to do with our desire to build strong collaborative relationships," Dr. Weldy said. "It has taken time, but we have been able to strengthen our relationship with faculty and each of the schools and colleges.
We’ve done a better job of telling our story—specifically how our programs and services help to enhance the student learning experience.”
Reflecting on this recognition, Dr. Weldy emphasized the power of teamwork. "Receiving the award was yet another reminder that the work I do (the work that we do) matters.
"It was also a wonderful surprise that my wife was present to see me receive the award. Seeing her made the moment that much more special," he said.
